Fall’s one and only long weekend is just about here. If you’re looking for a break from all the turkey or want to do some shopping, here’s a list of what’s open and closed Thanksgiving day in Brampton.
What’s Open
Some recreation centres throughout Brampton are offering programs for the whole family including swimming, skating, fitness and more. To double check if yours is open, we recommend calling your local recreation centre, calling 311 or visiting www.brampton.ca to confirm program schedules.
Most corner stores and Rabba will be open if you need to pick up last-minute grocery items, and if you want to get in some shopping, Bramalea City Centre is also open Thanksgiving Day on a holiday schedule from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m.
Some local restaurants will also be open, including most that offer pickup and delivery. As for sit-down restaurants, we recommend calling ahead to find out about hours on Thanksgiving Day.
What’s Closed
Government offices, banks, libraries and post offices will all be closed on Thanksgiving Day.
In addition, banks and regional services like Ontario Works, employment services, and waste collection, the LCBO, Beer Store, and most grocery stores will also be closed.
All Brampton Library branches (Chinguacousy in the Civic Centre, Cyril Clark, Four Corners, Gore Meadows, Mount Pleasant Village, Springdale and South Fletcher’s) will be closed on Thanksgiving Day.
City Hall will be closed and a number of city services will be unavailable or operate under reduced service levels.
Some of the city’s services will continue to operate as usual, including Fire and Emergency Services and By-Law Enforcement.
Regional services and offices will also be closed Monday including, Access Peel, Assessment: Peel Access to Housing and Children’s Services, Brampton breastfeeding clinics, Children’s Services Operations, Community Recycling Centres, dental services at Peel Public Health clinics, Employment Resource Centres, Healthy Sexuality Clinics, Human Services reception, Learn.Play.Care. Child Care Centres, Ontario Works in Peel, Peel Living, Public Works reception, the Meadowvale Peel Public Health Clinic and Rent Supplement.
If you’re taking transit
Brampton Transit will operate as normal most of the weekend but will operate on a Sunday/Holiday schedule on Thanksgiving Day. All transit stores will also be closed on Monday.
