It wouldn’t be summer without ripe, luscious strawberries. Why buy from the grocery store when you can pick your own? Here are ten places near Brampton where you can pick strawberries.

Downey’s Farm

20 minute drive

Downey’s is open seven days a week from early morning to afternoon. They charge a $3.00 fee which is, taken off the price of the berries when you cash out. Buy a container there or bring your own (although they do not allow picking into bags).

Andrews Scenic Acres in Milton

30 minute drive

The farm does not charge admission Mondays through Thursdays, although there is a $6.00 admission fee on Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays. Check the farm’s calendar to find out when your favorite fruits are available for picking.

Applewood Farm & Winery in Stouffville

45 minute drive

Calling itself the home of the “heaping basket,” Applewood charges a $9 admission fee which includes a free basket and access to the farm animals, playground, nature trails, weekend wagon rides, and family play yard.

Whittamore’s Farm in Markham

1 hour drive

This farm is open seven days a week, including Canada Day and other upcoming holidays. After over 200 years in business, Whittamore’s will be closing to the public in November, but there’s still time to get in one last visit.

Reesor’s Family Farm Market in Markham 

1 hour and 5 minute drive

Also open on Canada Day this year, Reesor’s is available for strawberry picking on Mondays through Saturdays. There is free admission and strawberries cost $5.15 per kg.

Trapper Bob’s Farm in Newmarket

1 hour and 7 minute drive

Trapper Bob’s features several varieties of strawberries including Governor Simcoe, Kent and Veestar. Call ahead to find out when the farm is open and to check prices and availability.

Brooks Farms in Mount Albert

1 hour and 10 minute drive

Open seven days a week, Brooks Farms charges $3.00 per person, which will be used as a credit towards all berries picked. You can bring your own basket or buy one there for $1.50 each.

Organics Family Farm in Markham

1 hour and 10 minute drive

Pick your own strawberries are $5 per liter at this certified organic farm, which is open seven days a week. There is a $10 minimum fee per person prior to entering the picking area which entitles you to two litres of berries.

Brantford Farms in Brantford

1 hour and 15 minute drive

The Pate Family has lived and farmed in Brant County since 1891. The strawberry farm is open daily from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. with a price of $2.50 per litre.

RedBarn Berries & Veggies in Woodstock

1 hour and 20 minute drive

This farm is open seven days a week, but you’ll have to call ahead for pricing on pick-your-own strawberries.
