Councillor Pat Fortini’s motion to appoint Elaine Moore to Council in order to replace Charmaine Williams was illegal and subsequently quashed by Ontario Superior Court. The Fortini motion was supported by Councillors Martin Medeiros, Jeff Bowman, Doug Whillans, Gurpreet Dhillon and Charmaine Williams herself.

Charmaine Williams is now an Associate Cabinet Minister in the provincial government.

The Ontario Superior Court also ordered these Councillors to pay $20,000 to Councillor Harkirat Singh, who initially filed the court application to have the illegal motion quashed.

Prior to passing their illegal motion, the city’s lawyer, Sameer Akhtar, advised City Councillors that the Fortini motion was not aligned with provincial laws. The next day Akhtar was fired by Fortini and Medeiros, with the assistance of their Council allies.

In the aftermath of the court’s ruling, Mayor Patrick Brown is now calling on Councillor Pat Fortini – and those who supported his illegal motion – to publicly apologize for breaking the law.

They owe the city of Brampton residents an Apology…Because they Really took the city business to a halt for the Last month and bramptonians deserve better
